December 2025 Updates

KTVJ is making way for our new antenna and transmitter. Construction for KTVJ to operate on carrier frequency channel 26 has begun. There will be interruptions in transmission from time to time during installation.Here are some progress pictures.   As mentioned, KTVJ will remain on channel 3 on your TV, but this upgrade may require you to rescan your TV sets. November 2025 Updates

The new KTVJ Jampro Channel 26 transmitting antenna has arrived, however we are waiting for additional parts to complete installation. If the weather holds up, installation will be completed before winter storms hit, otherwise we'll be looking at a spring 2026 carrier channel switch. As mentioned, KTVJ will remain on channel 3, but this upgrade may require you to rescan your TV sets. Stay tuned to KTVJ and here on our website for more updates. August 2025 Updates

The newly constructed beautiful GatesAir UHF transmitter is here! Soon KTVJ will be upgrading our signal to provide better reception throughout the Boise/Nampa/Meridian area. May 2025 Updates

On May 2, 2025 CMC confirmed its application to move the KTVJ carrier frequency from VHF 6 to UHF 26 as approved by the FCC. CMC selected GatesAir and Jampro as the suppliers of a new state of the art 2600 W GatesAir transmitter and 12 Bay Circular Polarized Jampro Antenna for the new facility. The pending move comes with a fivefold increase in power ensuring beautiful coverage penetrating every corner of the Boise-Nampa-Meridian DMA as well as smaller communities throughout the foothills. Installation is expected in late June or early July 2025 when the summer weather is best high atop the Deer Point mountain peaks overlooking the Treasure Valley.
KTVJ remains on viewers' TV channel 3 ideally located between the local CBS and PBS affiliates.

October 2024 Update

On October 3, 2024, the FCC approved an application to move the carrier frequency of KTVJ Channel 3 from rf channel 6 to rf channel 26.

August 2024 Update

In August 2024, KTVJ Channel 3 submitted a Major Modification to move from rf channel 6, 3 KW ERP to rf channel 26, 15KW ERP.

June 2024 Update

Beginning August 20, 2024, all Class A, LPTV, and TV translator stations will be permitted,
on a nationwide basis and without geographic limitation, to file a major modification to seek authority to change channel.
KTVJ is considering applying to change its frequency to a higher channel in order to improve reception for viewers with indoor antennas.
KTVJ will remain on channel 3 on your tv sets, but the carrier freqeuncy would no longer be on channel 6.

Meanwhile, the best way to receive KTVJ is with an outdoor antenna.
When an indoor antenna is needed, KTVJ engineers recommend the following indoor solutions:

May 2024 update:

Over the last several weeks we suspect that solar flares have interrupted reception of KTVJ for many viewers.

According to NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), the dynamic solar flare occurred late Saturday (May 10) from an active sunspot region called AR3664. It peaked at 9:23 p.m. EDT (0123 May 11 GMT), registering as a massive X5.8 class flare, SWPC officials said. As a result, parts of some of the Earth's sunlit side had temporary or complete loss of high frequency (HF) radio signals.
